Newcastle Transfers: 10 Worst Ever Premier League Signings

6. Damien Duff

From: Chelsea Fee: £5 million (Source: BBC) Damien Duff was so saddened to be leaving London that he sent his evil twin brother North to join Newcastle in the summer of 2006. Or that's what it felt like. What seemed like a bargain at the time, turned out to be a bit of a disaster: the pace and excitement we'd all witnessed at Blackburn and Chelsea had gone, and in its place was a slow left-footer who could not stop staring at the ball. Duff was almost useless, merely becoming just another body to stick out wide, even cropping up at left-back on occasion, a position at which he was no good either. Part of the relegated side in 2009, it was Duff's deflection that saw the Magpies beaten at Aston Villa on the last day - it was his final major act as a Toon player, though fans will no doubt prefer to remember as the ineffective footballer he always was, rather than as a flash in the pan terrible player. Creating nothing out of something was his special talent, as attack after attack petered out into goal kicks and turnovers. He arrived giving Newcastle fans hope, and in the 69 games he played for the team, it's hard to even remember anything he did. Whatever happened to the real Damien Duff?
