Newcastle Transfers: 6 Deals Pardew Could Complete Today

4. Virgil Van Dijk

Now that the Scottish giants are out of the Champions League, it was never going to be too long before their star players and more saleable assets decided to look for other more financially rewarding opportunities away from the SPL. And so it has proved with Van Dijk, who this week announced that he wanted to leave the club.

The 22 year old Dutchman might be something of a gamble, given the quality of the league he would come from, and the almighty red alert offered by former SPL signing Jean Alain Boumsong, but he is undoubtedly talented.

He is imposing and strong, and has exactly the style that would suit the Premier League and which would probably work far more successfully alongside Fabricio Coloccini while he still plays. And that would at least deal with the ridiculous over-reliance on Mike Williamson for set plays, despite his not being able to direct any of his headers, ever.
