Newcastle Transfers: 8 Reasons Rolando Aarons MUST Stay

7. The Over-Hype

It's fair to say that Newcastle fans are guilty of over-hyping every young player who does well in the Reserves and even vaguely threatens to play in the first-team. We've seen Michael Chopra, Adam Campbell, Martin Brittain, Bradley Orr and Remie Streete all be crowned the next Maradona/Pele/Tony Adams without them ever even getting anywhere near the first team, because the local papers cotton on to a rising star and push his billing. That's clearly a problem, but it's nothing like the problem that comes when a young player goes to a top four club for a massive fee. Aarons is already being considered the find of the season, without even starting a game, and if he moves on to Man City or Liverpool for upwards of £15m (any less and Newcastle need to close their doors permanently) he will get a whole new classification. He will be crowned a Wonderkid immediately and everything he does will be scrutinised in the harshest terms and unless he is as strong as he is gifted, he will go the way of Dan Gosling, Scott Sinclair, Jack Rodwell and every other youngster who has attracted that fawning label. His price-tag will become increasingly heavy, and unless he hit the ground running, he would be classed as a failure before he even got going, thanks to the "catch-up" mentality that comes with having to pay back big money.
