Newcastle United 0-1 Borussia Mönchengladbach - Player Ratings

3. Mike Williamson - 5

If Williamson lines up against Southampton in the Premier League next weekend then it will prove that, as much as the three signings the Magpies have made have been good acquisitions, their glaring defensive problems are still not even close to being resolved. As is so often the case, Williamson got on to the end of a magnificent Jack Colback corner in the first-half - but his hopeless header sailed miles over the bar. Defensively the tall Englishman was caught out a couple of times as Borussia got in behind him, even though the pace of the game was extremely slow. Notably, midway through the second-half Patrick Herrmann absolutely skinned him on the left flank to set up a Borussia counter. He just is not Premier League quality.
