1. Martin O'Neill
A little less likely than the aforementioned managers, but O'Neill becomes a possibility in the event that none of the above are willing to take the reins at Newcastle. Martinez is happy at Wigan, Benitez could seek a bigger job abroad, Moyes could sign a new contract at Everton which leaves just Di Matteo - with no guarantees he'd be interested either. What could work against O'Neill is, obviously, the fact that he has just been sacked by arch-rivals Sunderland. Who would want a manager not capable of bringing success to their rivals? Nobody, but, available Premier League-standard managers aren't waiting by the phones in their hundreds - and O'Neill's proven stability at clubs such as Villa and Sunderland (before this season) could work in his favour. Let me make this clear, I don't believe Martin will be the next man at St James Park - nor should he be. But when other potential managers who might be available have already had their chance at Newcastle, such as Sam Allardyce and Alan Shearer, then desperate times could call for such a move to happen.
