Newcastle United Greatest Ever Premier League XI

6. RM - Nobby Solano

More than the sales of Andy Carroll and Yohan Cabaye, the decision to sanction Peruvian marvel Nolberto Solano's move to Aston Villa in 2004 was one of the single most disappointing moments in all of Newcastle transfer history. The winger - whose versatility saw him cover at right-back under Glenn Roeder - was never the most prolific scorer, but he had such an uncanny ability to put the ball into the box that he was responsible for considerably more goals than he put in the net himself. There was something almost supernatural about the way the Peruvian linked up with team-mates - in particular Kieron Dyer and Alan Shearer - and his delivery from set-pieces from any range made him a hugely valuable asset across the seven and a half seasons he spent with Newcastle in total.
