Newcastle United's Greatest Foreign XI

10. Left Back: José Enrique (Spain)

Another potentially controversial selection, given the way in which José departed and the comments he made about the club after leaving. But he paid his penance in that amazing game against Liverpool when Reina was sent off and he had to go in goal to thunderous chants of €œwe€™re in the top six, we€™re in the top six, José Enrique, we€™re in the top six€. And the fact that he€™s done very little since leaving the Toon, except getting a bit podgy and becoming a bit of a Twitter star means he€™d probably jump at the call to join this foreign XI. Yes, the whole Gallowgate end would collectively hold their breath every time he got his feet tangled up by the corner flag, and would seem to think his best bet was to limply pass the ball across the box, but on the whole, he was generally solid. And who else is there to pick at left back? Alessandro Pistone?
