1. Mick McCarthy - Sunderland
Long before Derby County there was Mick McCarthy at Sunderland setting horribly low points totals. The former Republic Of Ireland manager replaced Howard Wilkinson in March 2003 and led Sunderland to a record low 19 points, though we cant really blame McCarthy for that as it had mostly been Wilkinsons work. After two seasons in the Championship turning The Black Cats around he returned determined to keep them up. McCarthys return was a disaster and with ten games to go he was sacked, Sunderland were 16 points from safety and ended the season on just fifteen points. Despite bringing the club back to the top flight and looking to rejuvenate Sunderland McCarthy failed, his Sunderland team that year were nothing short of abysmal. He was eventually replaced by Roy Keane who brought Sunderland back up the following season and they have remained in the Premiership since then. McCarthy had several jobs since then and managed to finish bottom of the Premiership again when he was manager of Wolves in 2011/2012. Are there any other managerial disasters we have missed off the list? Share your thoughts below.
