Premier League: 12 Candidates For Player Of The Season So Far

2. Juan Manuel Mata (Chelsea)

There is no reservation in my mind that Juan Mata has been the most prominent creative talent in the Premier League season thus far. He plays the starring role as 1/3 of Chelsea's distinguished midfield force, alongside Eden Hazard and young Brazilian superstar Oscar. Mata has unfailingly fashioned performances of the highest calibre this season and he has dazzled audiences not only at Stamford Bridge but across the whole country. These performances have been verified by the possession of the best set of statistics of any Premier League player this season, with 13 goals for Chelsea and an unassailable record of 19 assists in all competitions. Being a Spaniard, it is no surprise that Mata is blessed with the perfect footballing technique. He has the capability of being able to locate vast amounts of space in midfield and you could argue he almost has supernatural vision, as he can identify startling defence splitting passes that us mere mortals wouldn't even dream of seeing. I'm certain that Mata would feature on every critics and pundits' team of the year list, and with the Chelsea manager situation always fluctuating, Mata's consistently high-class performances week in and week out have gone some way to explain Chelsea's solid position in the Premier League so far.
