7 Things Rangers Fans Can Expect From Mike Ashley (From All Newcastle Fans)

2. A New Stadium Name

Rangers fans were sold on something of a lie back in 2012 when Mike Ashley convinced Charles Green to give him the stadium naming rights for the princely sum of £1. The club had apparently brought in Derek Llambias as a consultant from Sports Direct (strangely, he was supposed to be employed by Newcastle at the time not the retailer) to say how much of a good idea selling the naming rights would be. Llambias claimed that Newcastle's deal had financed Demba Ba's move from West Ham, when in reality the rights cost Sports Direct nothing, and neither did Demba Ba. And then, incredibly, it was later revealed (this year in fact) that Ashley (Llambias' boss remember - no conflict of interest there) had bought the rights for £1. Clearly no players could ever be bought for that much. The long and short is that Ashley owns the rights, and he will exercise that right when he's been painted as enough of a saviour at the club to offset the poor PR for a while.
