It's not really much of a surprise to us that Rob Elliot has yet to break through the 20 Premier League games barrier for Newcastle in his near three-year stay stint at the club. Although a competent goalkeeper in his own right, the 27-year-old has yet to convince that he could handle the weight of the number one jersey should Tim Krul decide to sever his ties with the club this summer after being touted to join AC Milan earlier this month. His contributions during last season's eye-opening flirt with relegation are very much appreciated and he's proven a likeable character via his interactions with supporters on Twitter. But when it comes down to raw ability, concerns still arise over Elliot's positioning and distribution and it's telling for his prospects of superceding Krul that we continue to monitor the progress of PSV shot-stopper and Holland international Jeroen Zoet as a potential replacement.
