Southampton's return to the Premier League had been a tricky one and involved the club taking up where they left off in terms of struggling at the bottom of the table. Even so, fans were unconvinced when Nigel Adkins, the manager who had won them successive promotions, was fired and Mauricio Pochettino was brought in. Yet to win after three games in charge, the visit of champions Man City did not promise anything better for the new boss.
