Southampton's 10 Best Premier League Victories Ever

7. Southampton 3-1 Manchester City - 09.02.2013

Southampton's return to the Premier League had been a tricky one and involved the club taking up where they left off in terms of struggling at the bottom of the table. Even so, fans were unconvinced when Nigel Adkins, the manager who had won them successive promotions, was fired and Mauricio Pochettino was brought in. Yet to win after three games in charge, the visit of champions Man City did not promise anything better for the new boss. Man City arrived at St. Mary's with the best defensive record in the league, but they found it hard to contain Saints in a game that proved the merits of Pochettino's high tempo possession game. Thanks to Jason Puncheon and Steven Davis, Saints were two goals up within twenty five minutes and, perhaps more impressively given they had also thrown away a 2-1 lead over City at the start of the season, their pacey pressure game managed to contain a team containing Dzeko, Aguero, Nasri, Silva and Toure. It was Southampton's first victory against a top half team since promotion to the Premier League and opened up a six point gap with the relegation zone. Saints would go on to finish 14th, five points above the relegation positions and would only improve from there.
