Southampton's 10 Best Premier League Victories Ever

6. Southampton 4-1 Aston Villa - 22.09.2012

The Man City win was a crucial breakthrough for the team under Pochettino, but arguably the team were already starting to turn things around and had already moved above the relegation zone. Perhaps a more significant win for Saints came at the start of that season. Adkins' team had shown definite promise in some tricky opening matches, but came into the home match against Aston Villa off the back of four defeats, including a 6-1 loss to Arsenal the previous week. Sloppy defending was again at fault, as was debutant goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, in letting Darren Bent score the opening goal and send Southampton in behind at half time. However, the second half saw a resurgent Southampton take control of the game. After Lambert evaded a group of defenders to fire home the equaliser just before the hour mark, Saints showed the kind of quality that has brought them where they are today with impressive goals from Puncheon and Clyne. The attacking quality of Lallana, Puncheon and, in particular, the passing quality of then record signing Gaston Ramirez was hugely impressive. Ramirez, now on loan at Hull, arguably never gave such a good performance for Saints again. It would be the club's biggest win of the season. Indeed, Southampton wouldn't get a better Premier League result until March of this year when they beat Newcastle 4-0. Without that early season win, it is hard to say whether Saints would still be a Premier League team, especially given that they would not win again until November. Southampton Starting XI: Gazzaniga, Clyne, Yoshida, Fonte, Fox, Schneiderlin, Davis, Ramirez, Lallana, Puncheon, Lambert
