Spurs: 10 Things Pochettino Must Do To Make His Side A Force Next Season

9. Place Emphasis On Youth To Replace The Unwanted

While Tim Sherwood was rightly derided at times during his spell in charge, one of the better things he did was bring through some of the younger players into the first team. Zeki Fryers, Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Kane all had significant playing time last season and while the amount of money available to Pochettino has yet to be revealed, the Argentinian might have to utilise more young players next season. Last season the club started the transition towards a younger squad, removing the likes of Scott Parker, William Gallas and Jermain Defoe and bringing in younger players such as Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen, though unfortunately this was not completed and weaker players still remain in the squad. Rumours surfaced that Michael Dawson and Brad Friedel were both on their way out, only to be kept in. While both have been loyal servants to the club, both are not as mobile and reliable enough to take the team to the next level. Mistakes were also made by removing younger, potential stars of the future away from the team, for example selling Steven Caulker and loaning out Lewis Holtby and Tom Carroll. The team and squad management will be quite a balancing act but he has a large group to choose from, which will be enhanced by the returning Holtby and Carroll. Bringing in younger players will not be as easy to do, but if Pochettino can do this and remove the weaker and no longer needed players, the team will be all the better for it next season.
