Spurs Transfers: 5 Reasons They Must Add A New Striker In January

3. Emmanuel Adebayor Is Only A Short Term Solution To The Problem

As a follow-up to the previous point, Spurs€™ lack of goals is largely a factor of not having a striker that is currently doing the business. Andre Villas-Boas pinned a lot of his hopes on Spanish forward Roberto Soldado, but the 28-year-old striker has only scored five times in 18 games; his poor performance was surely a factor in the Portuguese manager getting sacked. Emmanuel Adebayor has been utilized by Sherwood after being largely out in the cold, and has managed five goals from six league games, but he is hardly a long-term option at 29 years old. Sherwood has further problems with Jermain Defoe agreeing a switch to MLS club Toronto FC, even if he will be loaned back to Spurs in the short term. The problem that the North London club has is that most of their rivals have a proven striker up their sleeve this season. For example, Liverpool have Suarez, Man City have Aguero, Man Utd have Rooney and Spurs need to find their own option, while they still have a fighting chance of finishing in the top four this season. Adebayor has done superbly but he some help as well as Spurs thinking about a long term replacement for him.
