Newcastle: St James' Park Timeline - A Visual History
11. Demolition
In January 1972 work started on a new Leazes Terrace (at the far end of this picture) almost 50 years after the club had first applied for planning permission. It would be officially opened a year later.
In 1978, plans to develop the terrace further were scrapped. The stand was demolished but never replaced, temporary seating was even used at one point.
The hardcore fans that once stood there were moved to the Gallowgate End and the Leazes would decrease in size and become the away end.
