Three years later, in 1967, the multi-sports idea was proposed again. A £2.6M scheme was devised that would have seen the capacity of St James' Park raised to 63,000.
The cost, which was to be shared between the club, the City and the University, was seen as too much by the club. There were plenty of disputes and even talk of the club re-locating to Gosforth Park. After that, the whole thing fell through.
