10 Most Ridiculously Over-Priced Flops In Premier League History

9. Robinho - Manchester City (£32m)

Brazilian superstar Robinho was meant to be Manchester City's big statement. He was supposed to be the player who was to lead the sleeping giants of Manchester to great heights and out of the shadow of Manchester United, following Sheik Mansour's takeover and subsequent investment into the club. His transfer was huge and in the region of £32 million, with the promising young forward meant to enjoy the peak years of his career in the blue half of Manchester. He did well at times too, with his exquisite lob against Arsenal in his first season a particular highlight. But with big money often comes big ego, and Robinho's attitude was his downfall. He was the foundation of club disharmony, whilst he longed to move away from the rain of England back to the sun kissed beaches of foreign lands. He ended up costing the club nearly £2 million per goal after he left the club for Milan close to two years to the day of signing for City. His £106,000-a-week wages were another issue, with the Brazilian ending up as one of British football's most costly failed transfers.
