10 Most Ridiculously Over-Priced Flops In Premier League History

8. Roberto Soldado - Tottenham (£26m)

Roberto Soldado was brought in to Tottenham last summer as the main player tasked with replenishing the goals of new Real Madrid signing Gareth Bale, who ended up leaving for the Bernabeu in a world record £85 million transfer. Soldado meanwhile arrived for £26 million, which was at the time a club record and a deal thought to be good business - especially given the Spaniard's goalscoring exploits in La Liga in previous years. He was smashing the goals in for Valencia - scoring 30 goals in 46 games in the season prior to his move. Soldado was a fox in the box who should have been the man to shoulder Bale's responsibilities, but the move did not go to plan. The Spaniard's opening campaign in England was miserable. He only scored six league goals in his first season and at times looked as though he had completely forgotten how to find the net. It was so puzzling to see how a man with such proven quality in front of goal had just lost it in an instant. Soldado still remains at White Hart Lane despite speculation linking him with a move away, and he will no doubt be hoping for lots more goals in the season to come.
