10 Most Ridiculously Over-Priced Flops In Premier League History
3. Andy Carroll - Liverpool (£35m)
West Ham fans aren't too fond of this lad either, but when Liverpool paid £35 million to sign Andy Carroll from Newcastle in January 2011, the famous scouse brows would have been painted on the locals a couple of inches higher. He had a decent time at Newcastle, but Carroll came in alongside Luis Suarez on deadline day and really failed to hit the heights of the Uruguayan, who has recently left himself. Carroll was a player who Newcastle played to the strengths of, but what sense did Liverpool see in bringing him in if they weren't going to use him in the right way? Brendan Rodgers did the right thing in the end, identifying that Carroll was not going to fit into the new look Liverpool. He subsequently shipped him out to the Hammers on loan, before West Ham took up the option to sign him permanently for £15.5 million. The Reds ended up making a near £20 million loss on Carroll, who hit only 11 goals in 58 games at Anfield. Liverpool fans will probably prefer that it's not them who have to worry about watching him any more, despite the huge financial loss.
