The galaxy far, far away has seen some pretty moving sacrifices over the decades.

In terms of the animated section of Star Wars, though, one moment of heartbreaking heroism sits head and shoulders above the rest.

During the 'Jedi Night' episode in the fourth season of Star Wars Rebels, Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus managed to rescue Hera Syndulla from the clutches of the Empire. However, just as the two looked to join up with the rest of their Rebel pals, and right after Hera and Kanan shared a kiss after she told Jarrus she loved him, a walker blasted the fuel tower they were being picked up on.

Sensing there was only one way for his friends to survive, Kanan used the Force to keep the flames and explosion from hitting them, pushing a distraught Hera away from the deadly situation when she tried to save him from his fate.

But it was too late.

All of the above, Kanan's sight returning so he could finally see Hera one more time as he fired their ship to safety, and the overwhelming score throughout make this a truly painful watch whether you know Kanan's fiery sacrifice is heading your way or not - and it's a moment that will almost always guarantee a tear or two for this fallen legend.
