It was 1994, this writer was just a spring chicken, and yet can still remember the exact moment that the Enterprise-D, in her three-nacelled glory, slid out from under that cloak and began firing that ventral phaser canon. Honestly, if anyone had been walking within a three-mile radius, they might have wondered what on earth was the matter, the cheering was so loud.
This alternate future may yet still come to pass - with the recovery of the Enterprise-D's saucer section from Veridian III, and the addition of the drive section of the USS Syracuse, who's to say that there may not be a situation that calls for this ship to enter service yet again, canon and extra nacelle in hand?
