10 Greatest Ship Entrances In Star Trek

4. USS Dauntless - Crossroads

The USS Dauntless, based on the design of the original Dauntless that Voyager encountered in Hope And Fear, was a clever redesign of the alien vessel. The bridge and outer structure both stuck fairly closely to Artus's ship, though of course, Starfleet had added their own spin on things.

One thing that wasn't entirely clear from the first shot of the Dauntless was the size of the vessel. One might have assumed it was a small enough ship, and then the episode Crossroads showed us that, actually, it was bloody enormous.

Admittedly, the Protostar itself isn't the biggest ship in the fleet, but it is dwarfed by the Dauntless. That initial moment, where the latter ship rises up in front of it, was actually intimidating enough to make us forget that it was Admiral Janeway in command. Surely, there couldn't be anything to fear?

Well, perhaps not, but that doesn't mean fire wasn't exchanged between the two ships. The Protostar's warp drive is damaged by a torpedo, fired from the Admiral's ship, and takes refuge in the Romulan Neutral Zone - with three Romulan Warbirds decloaking to 'remind' the Dauntless it can't follow.

It's a heart-pounding sequence, and one wrong move could lead to open fire on all sides.
