10 Star Trek Toys That Sucked

2. Star Trek Astro Helmet

Star Trek Astro Helmet

Audience members of a certain age will surely remember the Gerry Anderson marionette-based show Stingray. Much like both Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, this series saw the daring puppets pilot their submarine to the depths of the ocean, dealing with villains that clearly took piscine inspiration.

They were quite alarming in image and certainly did the job to unnerve our daring heroes.

So, why someone would think of effectively taking a fish head and slapping a Star Trek logo on it is beyond this writer.

There is nothing in its design or inspiration that suggests space, let alone serving aboard a starship. If anything, it more closely resembles an ancient mariner dive suit, though the protuding eyes may not spell good news for the unlucky wearer.

This is far more egregious than Spock's Helmet. The style, pizzazz, and gumption in that toy is missing here. What we are presented with is a terrifying reminder that the human race did originally evolve from sea dwelling creatures and, based on the logic of Threshold, it is to the sea we shall return.

Probably wearing these helmets.
