3. Both Are Rebellious Schoolboys At Heart(s)
At the heart of Doctor Who is the premise that the Doctor stole his TARDIS and ran away from Gallifrey to go travelling through space and time. This free-spirited flouting of authority was responsible for several dressing downs from the Time Lord higher-ups and made for some interesting punishments being handed down. Bond is certainly no different in his desire to act as he sees fit and has regularly been reprimanded by M and the British government for some of his more reckless actions while away on missions. Indeed, the current iteration of 007, as played by Daniel Craig, seems to have a patent disregard for authority and does everything he can to ensure his own brand of justice is served. This mentality goes hand in hand with the Doctor's sense of self-importance and self-awarded jurisdiction as protector of the universe. Both men are stubborn and headstrong which is one of the main reasons their characters are so adored. They give viewers the thrill of rebellion without having to receive the inevitable telling off at the end of it. Perhaps even more indicative of the inherent child-like qualities at the core of these characters is their stubborn and often churlish reactions when they are given a stern talking to by their superiors. But then, there's no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes...
