The Beatles' Paul McCartney may not be an actor in the strictest sense, but he nevertheless gave an unforgettable as-himself performance in the iconic Simpsons episode "Lisa the Vegetarian."

The episode revolves around Lisa's (Yeardley Smith) decision to become a vegetarian, and the show's production team felt that this storyline would provide the perfect way for McCartney and his wife Linda - two of the world's most famous vegetarians at the time - to appear as themselves.

Paul agreed to star on one condition, that Lisa would remain a vegetarian for the rest of the series, rather than simply revert to eating meat in the next episode, given the series' general lack of long-term character changes.

The Simpsons' staff agreed, and indeed, Lisa remains a staunch veggie to this very day, almost an entire three decades later. McCartney recently reflected on the episode to GQ, saying:

"We were a bit worried that she would be a vegetarian for a week, then Homer would persuade her to eat a hot dog... The producers of the programme assured us that she would remain that way and they kept their word."
