10 Actors Who Suffered The Most After Game Of Thrones
7. Alfie Allen
Ramsay Bolton’s victim Theon Greyjoy goes through a harrowing arc throughout the series. Enduring months of torture by Ramsay and having his named replaced with ‘Reek’, the experience changes him forever as he becomes a broken man with extreme PTSD.
Theon’s actor Alfie Allen was also heavily affected by the torture the character had to endure. Allen has gone on to admit that playing such a role took an enormous toll on his mental wellbeing: “It’s great to have it end of a positive note,” Allen said in an interview with Deadline, “because it was hard, during the process, to open up and talk about how difficult it was. It felt like the walls were closing in at some points. Theon was kind of hated. Reviled, in fact, might be the word.”
Allen also said that to prepare for the character, he had to watch a lot of disturbing films such as Reservoir Dogs to get himself mentally ready for the role, unfortunately doing meant that Allen wasn’t in a good place throughout filming. He goes on to admit that opening up with fellow actors Gwendoline Christie and Kit Harrington helped him deal with his mental stability during the process, but he wasn’t the same person after the show had finished.
