Far from a mere cameo, Sarah Silverman got to enjoy a guest stint in a two part episode of Voyager. 1996’s “Future’s End” sees the comedian and actress play the interestingly named Rain Robinson, an astronomer in modern day Los Angeles who inadvertently comes into contact with the Voyager crew, in the process instigating a whole heap of trouble.

It was always good fun when the crew got to goof around on 20th century Earth, and this episode is a great example of the material they managed to mine from the ensuing culture clash. The two parter is often ranked as one of the high points of the Voyager series, with one of the show’s more deft time travelling storylines, and another great guest appearance by Ed Begley Jr. Silverman is tasked with much of the episodes’ comedic heavy lifting, with her plucky young scientist finding herself baffled time and again by the oddballs she has encountered.

Silverman would go on to have a great career in many genres, but her scene stealing turn would likely be the first time many viewers had seen her outside of a fully comedic setting. She adds a lot to a pair of great episodes.
