10 Amazing Doctor Who Moments You've Probably Never Seen

6. Tooth And Claw: A TARDISODE

Doctor Who A Ghost Story For Christmas mini-episode
BBC Studios

Back when Series 2 was on the air, each episode got its own mini prequel story that was only made available online, or via mobile download. Yes, mobile download. In 2006. You can imagine how slow the process was.

Dubbed "TARDISODES", these shorts have since become difficult to access in any official capacity, meaning that many fans might not be aware that they exist.

While they're not all great (most contain irrelevant or uninteresting information, and some, like The Age Of Steel's prelude, just reuse footage from the main episode), the TARDISODES for Tooth And Claw/The Girl In The Fireplace are pretty fantastic. The former shows us the werewolf monster attacking one of its first victims after crash-landing on Earth, while the latter reveals how the SS Madame de Pompadour came to be overtaken by those creepy clockwork droids.

These two shorts are the only ones that feel like worthy extensions of their episodes - they're the most competently-directed of the bunch, and they actually provide some useful context and detail.

On the plus side though, each TARDISODE is only a minute long... so it doesn't take much time to breeze through the lot!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
