10 Anime Beatdowns We'll Never Forget
7. Kaneki Vs Jason - Tokyo Ghoul
After enduring extreme torture at the hands of this psychopath, protagonist and all around unlucky guy Kaneki gets the chance to return the favor.
We don't see much of what Jason does to Kaneki. All we know is it involves a centipede, pliers, and other brutalities so horrifying that they were enough to literally break his mind and turn his hair white.
In order to survive, Kaneki chooses to fully embrace his ghoul side, the very thing he's refused to do up until this point. He then breaks free from his restraints and proceeds to pulverize his torturer with a terrifying glee.
From the animation to the catharsis of seeing Jason get absolutely wrecked, there's a lot that could be said about why this particular butt kicking in a series filled with them stands out as the best. However, it's its clever incorporation of the opening theme that makes it so great. Its use accentuates Kaneki's dramatic change and puts the series in a completely new light.
Tokyo Ghoul isn't the horror thriller it first appeared to be, instead it's a psychological character drama about trauma. Kaneki's thrashing of Jason, and what lead up to it, make it clear that the anime has a lot more on its mind than just guts and gore.
