Waking up with no memory and seeing a girl aiming a sniper rifle, Yuzuru Otonashi tries to make sense of where he is and what’s going on. The girl with the sniper rifle, Yuri Nakamura, invites him to join her in a group called the Afterlife Battlefront, a group created to fight against a girl called Angel. She also reveals to him that he is dead, living life in purgatory. Not believing her, Yuzuru goes down to talk to Angel and asks her what’s going on. Angel also tells him that he is in the afterlife, and when he asks her to prove it, she stabs him in the heart.

Waking up unharmed in the infirmary, Yuzuru doesn’t know what to make of what happened, until he sees his blood covered clothes in a pile next to him. After being killed again by another member of the Afterlife Battlefront, Yuzuru decides it’s best for him to get himself “obliterated” and move on from the afterlife.

Without a way to do so, Yuzuru joins the Afterlife Battlefront, and helps fight against Angel, while also trying to figure out how to move on from the afterlife. A great blend of comedy, drama, sadness, and romance, Yuzuru eventually realizes he needs to help the others pass on, before he can do so himself.
