Going back to the Battle of Blackwater, what’s really interesting about that episode is that we aren’t really sure who to be rooting for. On the one hand, Stannis is a much more rightful king than Joffrey, and we sure hate Joffrey, Cersei and many of the Lannisters.

On the other hand, to root for Stannis is to root for the death of Tyrion, Bronn, the Hound, and a bunch of other characters who we love but are on the Lannister side.

Either way, this moment is definitely the highlight of one of the show’s greatest battles. We build up this massive confrontation between Joffrey’s and Stannis’ men at sea, but then, surprisingly, only one boat meets Stannis’. It’s a trap, and in a genius move, Tyrion has one single ship full of wildfire sent out there. Bronn fires an arrow which sets it aflame, and then boom.

The explosion is absolutely devastating, wiping out many of Stannis’ ships, and at first that seems like it might actually be the end of the battle right there. It isn’t, of course, but it easily could have been. This is a surprising but awesome moment that totally shatters our expectations and quickly makes us realize how much of a genius Tyrion is, with such a clever plan that nearly took out Stannis’ whole army in one fell swoop.
