10 Awesome Game Of Thrones Moments That Made Us Cheer
4. Drop the Scythe!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVv41eIp7rcThe Watchers on the Wall is a pretty intense episode, featuring a massive attack on Castle Black that the show had been building up to for a while. It’s the wildlings versus the Night’s Watch, and the watch is horribly outnumbered.
There are a whole bunch of horrifying, grisly deaths of Night’s Watch people, such as an insane moment when a dude is shot with a giant’s arrow and goes flying all the way into the distance and landing hundreds of feet below. He doesn't make it. There’s also the really sad, bloody death of Pyp in the arms of Sam later on.
But as it turns out, the Night’s Watch has a secret weapon that they were saving for the exact right moment. At this point in the episode, Jon has left Edd in command, and he shouts out to his men, “Drop the scythe, boys!” Suddenly, a giant anchor attached to a chain drops and swings across. A bunch of the wildings, who are slowly climbing up the wall, look over just in time to be completely crushed by it, with just their bloody hands remaining.
It’s a great surprise, and in a battle where the Night’s Watch seems to be doing pretty poorly and might not make it through the night, it’s the perfect, unexpected moment of victory.
