Derek Jacobi is one of the most respected theatre actors of his generation and his reputation was used to great effect when he appeared in an episode of Frasier. "The Show Must Go Off" features Frasier and Niles at their pompous and delusional best; Frasier is stunned to discover that Jackson Hedley a hero from his childhood is now known as Tobor the android. Having relayed the news to Niles, the Crane boys convince themselves that they can rescue the man from the indignity of Sci-Fi and restore him to the glory of theatre. With optimism and delusional arrogance ruling their minds, The Cranes set up a one man show for Hedley to display his talents - only to discover that he doesn't have any. Frasier and Niles were apparently too young to realise that their hero was a complete ham, and Jacobi plays his part perfectly by living up to the stereotype of overacting stage actors. The episode's funniest moments come when the Cranes acknowledge their mistake and arrive at the only honourable solution sabotage. Frasier and Niles try and fail to ruin own production, though in the end Hedley literally crawls his way onto the stage.
