4. Once Upon A Time

When this show first began airing, it was hard to tell what direction it was going to take. What would happen once they remembered who they were? How long could they really stay trapped in the not technically real town of Storybrook, Maine? And how is it possible that Rumpelstiltskin is the villain in every single story? Seriously, that is insane. But Once Upon A Time manages to make it all work. The story begins with a semi-familiar scene: Snow White and Prince Charming. They are finally getting their happy ending, when the evil Queen threatens to destroy it all. They send their daughter through a portal, hoping that one day she will save them all. Then we meet Emma Swan. She is leading a very lonely life until the son that she had given up for adoption comes to find her and tell her that she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Whoa, mind blown. The story lines may be slightly on the mindless side, but the show does a fantastic job of capitalizing on our fondness for familiar Disney characters (and puts some interesting twists on their tales). Going back and forth between present day Storybrook and flashbacks in the Enchanted Forest, it's enough to keep you interested and engaged--and oddly, rooting for Captain Hook. The first two seasons are top notch. I'll admit season 3 has been a wee bit mediocre, but it got a lot better once they left Neverland (yeah, they go to Neverland). Binging Advice: Take your bathroom breaks during scenes with Henry. That kid gets really annoying. Seasons 1-2 available on Netflix. Season 3 available on Hulu.
