10 Awesome TV Shows That Never Won A (Major) Emmy Award

1. The Wire

This is the biggie, and the one it's impossible not to mention when discussing TV shows the Emmys didn't recognise. If any series gives evidence to the failings of awards shows like this, it's The Wire.

The magnum opus of David Simon (whose Treme and Show Me A Hero were largely ignored too), there's a very strong argument to be made that it is the greatest TV drama ever produced. Despite that, it received just two nominations over its five-season run - both for Outstanding Writing - and didn't win either.

Obviously there were some great shows of that time, such as the oft-mentioned Sopranos and West Wing, but for The Wire - which was operating on the same level as those, if not higher, in every category - to not win anything is absolutely shocking (especially when Lost and 24 took the top prize in 2005 and 2006 respectively).
