Sci-fi doesn't get a lot of love at the Emmys - or any big awards shows across movies and TV, really, which is a whole other issue - and that's led to a few misses, but one of the biggest is Ronald D. Moore's reboot of Battlestar Galactica.

Airing from 2004-2009, the series used its space setting to deal with a number of deeply resonant and relevant themes, from religion to the war on terror, and featured excellent performances and writing.

The ATAS did recognise this to a degree, as it won awards for Sound Editing and VFX, but only nominations for writing and directing. Unfortunately, its run coincided with the rise of Lost, the end of The Sopranos, and the beginning of Mad Men, so it didn't get much of a look in, but losing writing and directing awards to House and especially latter-day E.R. feel like serious snubs for the show.
