10 Awesome TV Shows Whose Hype Totally Backfired!
3. Gravity Falls
Unlike the other ones we've seen, the kneecapping by hype rests squarely on the fandom surrounding it. Sure, you could argue that Gravity Falls helped create the obsessive hype machine that surrounds it by indulging the internet's need to theorize and connect dots and decode puzzles, but that was meant to be in good fun.
If you took away an impression of Gravity Falls from how the fandom chooses to remember it, you'd probably get the kid's version of Sherlock, a complex, detail-obsessed, puzzle within a puzzle within another puzzle with gripping drama and 4-dimensional characters.
if you watched the show, you know it's a complex, detail obsessed comedy for kids with only one - admittedly big - puzzle throughout with enough drama to get it by and a pig. Everyone forgets the pig.
The fandom just doesn't remember the same show it watched anymore.
