6. Raj Needs To Drink Alcohol So He Can Talk To Women - The Big Bang Theory
Dr. Rajeesh Koothrappali is a brilliant scientific mind. He's a great friend, has an awesome sense of humor, and is an amazing conversationalist. That is, unless you're a woman, in which case he would cower, avert his eyes, and basically make any social interaction with him incredibly awkward for you. It wasn't until Penny was saddled with tending bar at The Cheesecake Factory that Raj's life changed forever. Needing guinea pigs to test her mixology skills, Penny hands Raj a drink to sample. The beverage of destiny: a grasshopper. He begins to talk to Penny and realizes that with alcohol, all his problems of being unable to talk to women are solved. Except that when he drinks, he turns from shy and introverted, to cocky and irritating. A true Jekyll and Hyde transformation for the Indian doctor, you see: he continually screws things up for himself whilst drinking. Alcohol also has been shown to have something of a placebo affect on Raj. In "The Terminator Decoupling", Raj is hitting on Summer Glau from The Sarah Conner Chronicles (and doing a damn good job of it) when Howard points out that he's actually drinking a non-alcoholic beer. This causes Raj revert to his usual shyness - still, for a moment, he didn't need alcohol to talk to women. Which lead to his season 6 finale revelation that he didn't need alcohol in order to hold conversations with the fairer sex, after all. But for 6 whole seasons, it was a wild and boozy ride.
