3. The Darkest Timeline - Community
Community is a criminally underrated sitcom. In this day of reality TV imbecility and network comedy buffoonery, it's an island of intelligent humor and almost stands alone on the television landscape. In the season 3 episode "Remedial Chaos Theory", we are treated to pure comedy gold. In order to see who is willing to go downstairs and get a pizza being delivered, Jeff decides to toss a die in the air. Starting counting from his left with one, whoever's number comes up would be required to go downstairs to get it. Abed warns: "You are now creating six different timelines." The warning goes unheeded, and we are treated to 5 instances of the group dynamic when one person leaves. It's when Jeff rolls the die, however, where this show goes from great to epic territory. In this timeline, Pierce is shot with a gun from Annie's purse and dies, Troy and Abed's apartment catches fire, Jeff loses and arm trying to put out the fire, Shirley becomes an alcoholic, Annie goes insane from grief and guilt, and Troy destroys his larynx trying to swallow a flaming troll doll that he blamed for all the chaos. Abed realizes that it only makes sense that because this is clearly the darkest timeline, they should all accept it and embrace being evil. They become an evil study group, hellbent on discovering the "prime timeline," replacing their "lame" counterparts, and reclaiming their rightful lives. Keep in mind that this is a comedy show.
