7. Lily's Childish Racism Makes Things Look Real Bad
Episode: The Future Dunphys Usually it's cute when children speak their mind. They are candid and unfiltered but not all kids are Lily Pritchett-Tucker, the adopted Vietnamese daughter of gay couple Mitch and Cameron. When it comes to their attention that Lily is out of touch with her roots, Mitch, Cam, and Gloria (Mitch's dad's wife) decide to take Lily to a Vietnamese restaurant to teach her something about her heritage. But things easily fall out of place. Lily is stubborn and out-spoken with a little bit of a diva-ish attitude. As the adults sit Lily down for dinner, the kid begins to resist her daddies' attempt to help her understand where she came from. First she shouts how she hates Vietnam, making the group seem horribly racist. Then Cameron responds by unintentionally saying things that sound even worse out of context. Every time something horribly intolerant sounding is said, the restaurant would grow quiet to hear it all. Things escalate until they realize it is time to make a hasty exit, and that they'll probably never be allowed back into that restaurant again.
