10 Banned Anime From Around The World (And Why)

7. Kinnikuman - France

Kite Anime
Nippon TV

Kinnikuman is a perfect example of how a show only needs one slip up to find itself on the chopping block. The series itself is mostly harmless, filled with bright colours, comedy and tonnes of wrestling. However, there is one character who ruins it for everyone.

The series has an expansive cast of characters, and one of them is called Brocken Jr. His costume choices led to a ban on the entire show, as he used to dress head to toe in a Nazi uniform, with swastikas to boot.

Now weirdly the show stressed that Brocken was not a follower of the horrid ideals of the Nazis. Apparently he only wore the uniform thanks to the fact that it belonged to his grandfather...

Of course this was still considered deeply offensive, and it's hard to argue.

The character has since been censored in revivals of the show and the Manga itself. But, the damage was certainly done, leading to Brocken Jr - and Kinnikuman itself - finding no home in France.

See if you can spot the offending character above; it probably won't be too tough.
