10 Banned Anime From Around The World (And Why)
6. Attack On Titan - China
China has already appeared on this list, but Tokyo Ghoul was just the tip of the iceberg.
Attack on Titan is a colossal (pun intended) figure in the anime world. The popularity of the series exceeded what anyone could have expected for it, and its latest season was a huge success. But, the tale of humanity struggling to survive against giant beasts and oppressive regimes isn't everyone's cup of tea.
The first and most obvious reason the show has found controversy in China is the excessive violence. It's no surprise that watching people get devoured, torn apart, and sliced to ribbons doesn't fit the anti-gore sentiment of the country. Still, this isn't its only crime.
Another critical theme/aspect of the show (especially in the later seasons) is opposing authority. In the series, you watch as the characters lead a revolution and eventually find that they're the subjects of the oppression of a huge external nation.
These anti-government notions rubbed the country the wrong way in an unsurprising turn of events, leading to its ban.
