When looking at how streaming services have been doing in their war for top content and huge shows, Amazon have been incredibly diverse in their choices and have managed to find a good balance in getting a 'something for everyone' plan going.

Whether their shows have been set in the year 1956, or in 2350, they have concentrated on giving the people they work with creative freedom and encouragement in their development of the best possible quality programming, and it has paid off for them in dividends when looking at what they offer.

With Amazon's huge worth and multi-faceted business, they are able to invest big money in their media output without worrying too much about keeping it balanced until it became well-established. Which is a similar game-plan that Apple has with its Apple TV+ service. This gives both Amazon and Apple a big advantage over their rivals, who just won't be able to compete with their sheer financial might.

Much has been made of Amazon's estimated billion-dollar investment in their Lord Of The Rings series, but they also have given money to smaller series that have become critically acclaimed, and are on their way to challenging HBO with the quality on average of their offering.

10. The Man In The High Castle

One of the most famous age-old questions is answered in The Man In The High Castle, what if the Axis had won the war?

Well, we have our answer in fiction. The US has been split into two-parts, one controlled by Nazi Germany, and the other by the Japanese Empire. Set in 1962, the years since the war was won have created tension between the Nazis and the Japanese, in what can only be described as a cold war-esq stand-off. The only problem is that there is visual evidence that the Axis actually lost the war.

The central story and mystery is just epic to see unfold, the cast is fantastic, and the concept comes from the mind that brought the term 'Blade Runner' into the world. Philip K. Dick. Dick's work seems to be riding a wave of popularity in recent years and his stunning stories have been realised by TV and film more and more.

In short, The Man In The High Castle is a high concept work of mastery that is put forth by Amazon in stunning style. It ended in 2019 with its fourth season but remains an example of what great and underrated television is.
