10 Best Animated Comedy TV Shows On Netflix Right Now
5. The Midnight Gospel
The Midnight Gospel is really a combination of an animated series and a podcast. Born out of a fascinating collaboration between comedian Duncan Trussell and Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward, it revolves around a character called Clancy Gilroy.
Clancy runs a "spacecast" in which he interviews guests from various parts of the multiverse. If that's enough of a head-scratcher, check this out: the interviews are taken from an actual, real-life, podcast hosted by Trussell. Only the names of the characters were changed and some context and lore were added in order to create a running plot that ties the episodes together.
It really is a one-of-a-kind project in which you come for the weirdness, but stay for the animations. Ward did a wonderful job visualising Trussell's ideas and created animations that are beautiful to watch, but also serve a major purpose in conveying the story and advancing the plot.
Currently, only one season consisting of eight episodes has been produced, and there has been no word of a potential follow-up. However, Trussell has stated that the universe they created was carefully thought-out and massive in scope, and that he would love to revisit it as much as possible. Fingers crossed!
