10 Best Animated Comedy TV Shows On Netflix Right Now
4. Tear Along The Dotted Line
We move on to another oddball inclusion on our list. Tear Along the Dotted Line (originally titled Strappare lungo i bordi) is a six-episode limited series created by Italian cartoonist Zerocalcare. It was released internationally on Netflix in November 2021.
Tear Along the Dotted line has a very thin plot and it mostly works as a stream-of-consciousness vessel of its main character, which is Zerocalcare himself. Throughout the episodes, we get deep insight into Zero's thoughts and emotions, as well as his conscience, which is personified in the form of a giant, orange armadillo. Until the very end of the series, we see mostly everything through Zero's eyes and we have no choice but to take his word for it. However, as the plot progresses, we start to realize how unreliable as a narrator he is.
The story deals with difficult subjects and it's unfair to describe it simply as a comedy. There are plenty of jokes and visual gags, but they are used not for their own sake, but to build the characters and help us understand them better.
