There have been several animated Spider-Man series that are based on the Stan Lee-Steve Ditkocomic books series, starting with the 1967 TV series to the latest 2017 cartoon, but none of them can live up to the 1994 incarnation.

It had some major competition, what with the respective shows of Batman and X-Men being unstoppably popular, but John Semper’s adaptation was a triumph thanks to its loyalty to the source material and its insightful character study of the titular character.

Bringing the comic book series to life on screen and creating an engagingly haunting atmosphere, this was the series which had it all.

The voice acting was terrific, the action sequences are thrilling, and the animation is actually crisp and clean (at least for its time anyway).
