10 Best Animated TV Shows Of The 1990s

5. Daria

The Simpsons A Complete Guide To our Favorite Family
MTV

Daria started off as a secondary character on Beavis and Butt-head, before creator Mike Judge gave her a spin off show as the main character. Whilst the purpose of Judge’s previous show was meant to be simple entertainment, Daria is a much more polished animated series for its clearer visuals, greater developed personalities and wittier humour.

Many viewers identified with Daria – she’s blunt, sarcastic, smart and unbothered by what anyone thinks of her. It’s a coming of age, character driven story, but without falling back on the usual cliches.

A show that was so organic and realistic was a breath of fresh air at the time and has since remained ageless.
