10 Best Animated TV Shows Of The 1990s
4. Gargoyles
Coming in during “The Disney Afternoon” programming in the 1990s, Gargoyles stood out because it was a drama rather than a comedy. And whilst it was a show accessible to children, the series was clearly more geared towards an older audience.
Gargoyles was an exceptionally creative show, with a great depth for its mythological and fantasy, and the script practically on equal footing with Shakespeare, in terms of poetic and mature dialogue.
Every episode is carefully crafted with a fantastic level of drama, adventure and detailed environment. Truly, it is a Disney series like no other.
The animation does have the ‘direct-to-video’ aesthetic about it but every other element within Gargoyles is otherwise perfect, from the distinctive character designs and the fantastic acting performances, to the gripping drama which always left you wanting more.
