The Promised Neverland's story revolves around three young children in an idyllic orphanage who discover that they have been raised for a secretive and sinister purpose. In response to this, they plan an escape and use their skills to organise a mass departure alongside the other children, while working around their dangerous and malicious caretaker.
To reveal any more would spoil a lot of the title's charm, as discovering the mysteries and learning about the characters is a major appeal. Unlike other Shonen anime series, this series focuses on suspense, mystery and even horror, making it instantly stand out amongst its peers.
Its protagonists and antagonists are incredibly well developed, and the narrative ends up going in some entirely unexpected directions, making it easily one of the best titles of the decade.
